Work is about more than just a job. Your employees spend a significant amount of time in your Tempe office space, so why not turn it into an engaging environment they look forward to being in every day? In an effort to attract and retain top talent, building an office experience has become just as important as the job itself. From establishing emotional connections to office design, there are many ways to craft an engaging workplace experience for your employees. Explore some of these essential elements to help transform your office space in Arizona into a place where employees want to come to work!

Enhancing Your Workplace Experience
There are several steps you can take to enhance the work experience in your Arizona office space. Take a look at just a few of them to start planning your office revamp.

Keep Experience and Strategy in Mind
The first step in enhancing any workplace experience is to take a holistic approach to office design. Consider the emotional aspects of the workplace as well as the more objective elements — like operations and business strategy — to inform your decisions. When employees are doing work that requires a lot of mental effort, for example, the office should be relaxing. On the other hand, a more energized space is fine when the task is relatively easy. Moderate visual complexity is key — this means the space should include a few colors and patterns, and decorations should be carefully curated.

Increase Employee Engagement
Your Tempe office space must, above all else, support your employees’ ability to get the job done. This means designing an environment that is not only enjoyable to work in, but also empowers employees with the tools they need to be as productive as possible. Additionally, it’s important to ensure noise levels are well-controlled by being mindful of where huddle rooms are placed in relation to quiet areas. You can even provide several workspaces for different tasks in addition to meeting areas with a way to reserve these spaces easily.

Let Workers Have Some Control
Employees should have some control over the physical experiences they have at the office. Allow workers to have input on lighting — even if only a desk lamp — and give them the opportunity to work in places where furnishings can be reconfigured to some extent for additional privacy.

Create Opportunities for Emotional Connections
As remote work continues to become more popular, there are fewer opportunities for companies to support emotional connections within the workplace. One of the easiest ways to establish emotional connections is to ensure every employee feels they are valued by their team. Set up regular one-on-ones instead of quarterly meetings and recognize achievements at company gatherings.

Workplace Technology
Another factor to consider when designing an engaging workplace experience is technology. This includes providing necessary hardware like computers and mobile devices to facilitate communication and productivity. Providing the right tools for employees can significantly influence how they feel about their workplace experience. A recent study found that 83% of employees indicated a seamless communication platform would boost retention and encourage them to stay longer with a company.

A property inspection is essential to ensure that your new Tempe office space is free from both current and potential future issues. The process involves a thorough assessment of both the exterior and interior structure, as well as internal systems, to ensure the building complies with all safety measures and regulations. Explore this guide to help you understand how the process works and how you can benefit from a property inspection.

What to Expect During the Inspection Process
A proper commercial real estate inspection should check every aspect of the property. Your inspector will look at things like signs of wear and tear, structural elements, and even critical internal systems to ensure everything is working correctly. Here is what you can expect an inspector to examine during an evaluation of your AZ office space:

Structure of the building
The inspector will first determine whether the facility is structurally sound. He or she will note the type of construction used for the building and which materials the builders used in the process. The foundation will even be checked for any possible bulges, cracks, or leaning.

Internal systems
Internal systems such as mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and heating will be evaluated to determine if they are in working condition. An inspector should always pay close attention to the power circuits, which could cause a fire if there is an overload in the electric system. They will also evaluate the condition of service wires, switches, and outlets as part of the electrical inspection.

Exterior of the building
The exterior inspection begins with the driveways, sidewalks, and parking lots — an inspector will note any potential dangers like cracks, depressions, or heaves in the pavement. Roofing elements will then be evaluated to ensure there are no leaks. The building’s exterior will also be assessed for any other signs of current or potential issues like wet spots or like peeling paint.

Interior of the building
An inspector will examine the walls for any cracks, leaks, or stains, as well as potential termite or insect infestations. Floors will also be evaluated for cracked or squeaking boards, stains, or other damaged areas. If there are stairs in the building, your inspector should also check the condition to ensure they’re safe.

The list doesn’t stop there, though! Another important factor to consider is accessibility for people with disabilities. The Americans with Disabilities checklist outlines priorities for accessibility, including an accessible approach and entrance and easy access to public restrooms. Your inspector will list any potential barriers alongside possible solutions to fix them.

Benefits of a Building Inspection
There are several benefits to having your Tempe office space inspected prior to moving in. Some significant advantages include:

Saving you from issues in the future
A good inspector will be able to provide an educational assessment of the property, which will help save you time and money down the road. The evaluation can also help be a guide to consider any renovations, maintenance, and alterations in the future. Additionally, you’ll have a comprehensive assessment of the building’s current condition.

Getting all the relevant information
There are some cases where construction may have taken place without proper permitting or inspections. Hiring an experienced commercial property inspector can help identify these issues so that you can get these items addressed before moving in.

Giving you leverage in the negotiation process
The results of the inspection can serve as leverage to improve lease terms or convince the building’s owner to make the needed repairs before you sign the agreement.

8 Steps to Have the Perfect Work Lunch

Camroad Properties talks how to have the perfect business lunch, outside of your AZ office space, in 8 steps.

While you may have plenty of Arizona office space for scheduling a meeting with a potential client, business connection, or even mentee, sometimes it’s better to get out of the office and meet over lunch. Not only does it give you the ability to step outside of your Tempe office space, but it allows you to get to know the connection better. Before you make the ask though, be prepared. We’ve compiled a how-to on hosting the perfect work lunch.

The Ask

Provide a description of the meeting, make it clear you’ll be acting as host, which includes picking up the bill, and give the invitee the ability to say no or meet at their office instead.

Select a Restaurant

The best option is to choose a place that you’ve been to before or use a website like Yelp for guidance. Make sure the menu has options for all different diets, including at least two, quality vegetarian entrees. Often, the best spots for a wide menu of offerings are bistros and steakhouses. Pick a moderately priced location with great reviews that your guest will feel comfortable at if they arrive dressed casually.

Check out the restaurant beforehand. Note the atmosphere and where the restroom is located, introduce yourself to the manager, view the seating situation, and gauge the music volume. If things check out, make a reservation to ensure you don’t have to wait day of. Give both your name and the name of the guests.

In addition to scoping out the restaurant, you need to prepare for the meeting. Check out LinkedIn profiles of guests, study the potential client’s website, and prepare materials that you want to share. Have a list of questions on hand that you’d like to ask.

Arrive Early
Arrive 10-15 minutes before the scheduled lunch time. Let the waitress know that it is a business lunch and kindly request to keep the interruptions to a minimum.

No Distractions
Turn off your phone to give your guest your full attention.

To Alcohol or Not to Alcohol
Unfortunately, there isn’t a consensus on whether alcoholic beverages are appropriate at business lunches. Although, it’s clear that you should never be the one to order the drink first. If you guest chooses to order one, have a response ready.

If you decide to also order one, make sure it is something light, like a light beer or glass of white wine. Another trick is to tell the waiter “I’ll just have water for now” so the guest doesn’t feel awkward if they are the only ones who order a drink. Whether or not you actually order an alcoholic drink later is up to you.

Order Wisely
Think about how you’re going to look eating an item. Match your order to your guests: if they order an appetizer salad or dessert and coffee after the entrée, you can too, otherwise forget it.

After Lunch
Don’t forget to send a note to the client thanking them for their time.
With these tips, you’ll be forming more relationships and, as an added bonus, have a meeting conducted outside of the walls of your Tempe office space. Of course, it’s certainly possible to host a successful work lunch at your AZ office space, especially if you have a conference room and want to meet with a group to go over materials that include a presentation.
